ABCTE and Argosy University/Tampa to Host ‘Become a Teacher’ Information Session –March 30th

WASHINGTON, DC (March 27, 2006)—Argosy University/Tampa announced today that it will hold a “Become a Teacher” information session on March 30, 2006 for students pursing advanced degrees who want to become teachers upon graduation.  These information sessions are being organized in cooperation with the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE).

At the sessions, attendees can meet with Argosy University/Tampa faculty and ABCTE certification counselors to discuss how they can earn their teacher certification while completing their coursework. ABCTE offers the Passport to TeachingSM certification program that is recognized by the state of Florida as a route to full certification.

Individuals with bachelor’s degrees can earn ABCTE’s Passport to Teaching certification by demonstrating mastery on subject area and professional teaching knowledge examinations.  Argosy University/Tampa and ABCTE have developed several courses to incorporate ABCTE’s standards for what candidates must know to pass ABCTE’s rigorous examinations. 

ABCTE’s Passport to Teaching certification is a route to full state certification in Florida.  Individuals who utilize Passport to Teaching to earn their certification are recognized as highly qualified according to the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.
