ABCTE Hosts Information Session for Florida Charter School Teachers– February 3, 2006

WASHINGTON, DC (January 9, 2006)– The Florida Consortium of Charter Schools will hold an information session on February 3, 2006 in collaboration with the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (abcte.org) for professionals who want to change careers and become teachers.

The event will take place in Orlando, Florida. At the sessions, attendees can meet with charter school administrators, representatives from the Florida Consortium of Charter Schools and American Board certification counselors to discuss how they can earn their teacher certification.

The American Board offers the Passport to TeachingSM certification program that is recognized by the State of Florida as a route to full certification. Passport to Teaching allows highly knowledgeable professionals with bachelor’s degrees the opportunity to pursue certification through an individualized process; no additional college courses are required.

The information session is designed to provide career changers with information about the Passport to Teaching program and charter schools in the Orlando area. Teachers currently teaching in a charter school can learn how to earn full state certification and their highly qualified status with Passport to Teaching.

The information sessions will take place from 5-8 p.m. at the following location:
