ABCTE Partners With Argosy University/Tampa

WASHINGTON, DC (March 27, 2006)– The American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE) today announced it has partnered with Argosy University/Tampa to offer teacher certification for candidates pursuing master’s degrees.

Individuals pursuing advanced degrees in education can now earn their teaching certificate through ABCTE’s Passport to Teaching^SM program while completing their coursework at Argosy University/Tampa.

Argosy University/Tampa is developing courses that are designed specifically to help students prepare for ABCTE’s Passport to Teaching certification program while earning credits toward their advanced degree.

Individuals with bachelor’s degrees can earn ABCTE’s Passport to Teaching certification by demonstrating mastery on subject area and professional teaching knowledge examinations. Argosy University/Tampa and ABCTE developed several courses to incorporate ABCTE’s standards for what candidates must know to pass ABCTE’s rigorous examinations.

ABCTE’s Passport to Teaching certification is a route to full state certification in Florida. Individuals who utilize Passport to Teaching to earn their certification are recognized as highly qualified according to the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.

“We are very excited about our partnership with the ABCTE Passport to Teaching certification program to host information sessions for teachers and aspiring teachers on our campus and also to link our graduate programs to ABCTE’s programs,” said Argosy University/Tampa School of Education and Human Development Dean Patty O’Grady, Ph.D.
