*Special Education Certification must be paired with another certification area. Elementary Education is automatically included with all Special Education programs. Certification in both areas must be completed for an American Board Certificate to be issued.
How to Become a Teacher in Wisconsin
To become a teacher in Wisconsin with American Board’s teacher certification program, candidates will need to complete the following steps:
- Pass American Board’s required pedagogy exam and subject area exam.
- Submit your transcript(s) to American Board and pass a federal background check.
- Receive a teaching certificate and Institutional Recommendation from American Board.
- Apply to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction for a teaching license.
- Begin teaching in a Wisconsin school.
edTPA is Not Required
American Board is the only state-approved alternative teacher certification program that does not require the edTPA (Educational Teacher Preparation Assessment) to be completed. This saves you time and money, as you move into a new career in education.
